I will have to say I was highly anticipating the arrival but have been totally non plused so far. Only a few of the entrants have garnered any real support from me. I suspect most of them will not be around for the live shows. The thing I have noticed the most is Simon's apparent self promotion of teh talent by giving them standing ovations, something he did only once over the nine years he was on Idol. Simon is trying to convince us the talent is way better than Idol's. It's not working with me and apparently not wiht anyone else. I'll of course follow the show and give my jaded opinion but so far Idol needn't worry about a thing.

And you are right about the tour. It was the best I've ever been to. If you read my tour reveiw you will see I, like you, enjoyed some contestants way better on tour.

Good recap. The one thing I'd like to gripe about is that there wasn't anything in the penultimate night (the last competition night) for non-country fans. I watched Idol all season long... except for the night of the final two. And let me be clear: I was home with nothing pressing to do.

The voting is more problematic than I think you give credit for. Not THAT much of Idol's demographic are pure country music fans. (I love Crystal and recognize her country influences, but she's in such a different league from Scotty/Lauren/even Carrie that it's crazy).

The Voice is good for me precisely because it's more Crystal Bowersoxes and fewer Scotties. I'm a little bemused by the pervasive thought that this season was more talented than past seasons.

I think this is because level of difficulty for me has to play a role. Scotty's level of difficulty on most songs was so low that it was like he was fingerpainting. Haley was doing high school art class--flashes of greatness, lacking consistency. Nobody was pulling a Crystal/David Cook/Adam and doing real art except--again, inconsistently!--Casey.

Season Ten...I had such high expectations...foolish me. I sincerely miss Simon. J Lo seem to dominate the critiques and clearly indicated she wanted Lauren from the beginning...A word to the wise for future contestants if you are 15 or a bit older and make it...you have to compete with everyone in the competition...no excuses...and no they were not all perfect but some very unique entertainers were left behind, especially Lauren, for someone else. Loved the addition of Steven Tyler but he is too sweet to hurt anyone's feelings...oh well guess I will switch my allegance to the X factor... and remember fondly the first 10 seasons

It's not that surprising that they're up last week and down this week. The difference - Haley. Let the country bumpkins keep their mediocre hee haw stars, that's great for them, but it's not great for TV. Last week was the end of the season as far as I'm concerned.

Great commentary. I didn't even bother to watch last night.

RE: the voting. Take a look at dial idol. Total raw count on votes is considerably less than last year. I realize more are texting or voting online now, but the difference is huge. And they included 4 lines this year for the first time so that more votes could get logged. That's a 25% capacity increase right there. They truly are masters of manipulation and spin.

I'd like to take a moment to defend Dan here. I mean, did any of you actually WATCH her Led Zeppelin cover? She flubs the lyrics, goes in and out of tune several times, and her idea of performing grittily is to... run behind the judges and move her hips a little? Her lower range is as thin as can be, and her growling is as random and unprecise as any vocal gimmick that I've ever heard. She may or may not take more risks than the other contestants, as I really haven't watched much of the season, but since she couldn't pull the risks she took off with any fidelity or grace, who really cares? You may or may not like her, but things like missing lyrics and going out of tune are quite objective. And it's ridiculous than Dan was banned, by the way.

redrose, great job in referencing Randy Travis. I remember his lack or perspective and respent for Adam Lambert's singing "Ring Of Fire". In my years of watching AI, Travis was wins the Bozo award as a mentor.

If Scotty's kudos come from the likes of Travis, he will be be singing is a Nashville bar for quarters.

Wow, dude! Are you seriously calling many people a bunch of idiots just because you think they don't know music? That is a big insult to most people's sensibility and intelligence. And to lump Kelly Clarkson in with the people you're calling out? You might as well have thrown Kelly Clarkson a slushie in the face.

And so what if those Idol kids are in it more for fame over art? Doesn't make them any less of a person. In that case, you pretty much insulted a lot of Idols past and present.

I see that you have a lot of hate for Haley and wish her much ill. Wow! You really have a lot of issues. What did she ever do to you for her to deserve your unnecessary vitriol?

And that all-country final you love so much? I don't think a lot of people are going to enjoy it after reading your comments. Those comments really leaves a bad taste to a lot of people here. Shame on you!

Dan, I find you calling other people immature and dousing salt on their wounds a case of "Pot calling the kettle black."

It seems to me that you're trying to avoid taking responsibility for your aggression. Some people will let go, others are gonna apologize and take responsibility, but you? You're still at it and making excuses for yourself. I applaud you for your persistence, though by not assuming responsibility, it seems it's not only the opposition who appears immature.

Tell me something, though: What makes you in the right? Because I just don't see why I, like many others, should believe your word. Everyone hears and likes different things.

By the way, still insisting on your point while most people have already tuned out on you is considered shoving it down on their throats. And John Hamel is right, you really have a great need for attention. No me gusta!
