Mr. Lambert was not at all disrespectful, and any true Johhny Cash fan knows that Johhny would have been the first person to get up and appluad Lambert for being "out there". "Hurt" anyone? To suggest that country music fans should somehow be offended by that performance is "profiling" at it's finest. Lambert may grace teh stages of a few off broadway theaters, but I'm thinking that perhpas his "acting" has'nt been top notch, and htat's why we never heard of him before this. The man has a range that exhausts the imagination...he like some weird cross of Morrison and Mercury, with a little Elvis and Meatloaf thrown in. He's PHENOMONAL, and he shouldbe fronting a band or under the ligghts on Vegas right now...and because of that, I hope he goes home at number 3, so he can become a rockstar extraordinaire instead of wasting his time singing Idol Drivel for a year. Lambert is the best thing ever to hit Idol. Period.

I appreciate your opinion, BethR, but I do feel like Adam Lambert was out of bounds. He's an actor... he could have pulled off a helluva country performance and left everyone in the dust... while smiling knowingly to himself.

Now, I love Adam, and look forward to seeing him. His "Ring Of Fire" was one of the most exciting songs I've ever seen on TV.

Actually, I couldn't disagree with you more regarding Adam's performance. Adam was not being disrespectful to the Country Music genre by taking a Johnny Cash song and performing it the way he did. He admitted up front that he was not - and never would be - a country music singer. He simply did what any savvy singer would do in such a situation - find the best way to make a bad situation work for him. He wasn't mocking anything.

And since when does America require that their music stars be able to perform across all genres in order to merit success? Should we have denied Elvis his spot in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame simply because he couldn't pull off an opera aria? Adam is one type of singer, and he's not going to apologize for that or change who he is because the Idol PTB require a Country Week.

This definitely was a Love It/Hate It performance, and I can understand why some people really hated it. No problem. But why can't it simply be a matter of being a "not my cup of tea" scenario? Why does it have to become some kind of spit in the face of the American Idol premise. The very fact that the show expects contestants to twist and contort on command begs for performances like Adam's to demonstrate that there is a lot more to being artistic than what Idol deems it to be.
